The dolls that I create became one-of-a-kind pieces of art. In my classes, I see how women are touched first by the creative process and then when the doll comes into being, by the "child" they have created. At the end of a workshop, the student observes her doll and is moved to dress it like a real little child. Oftentimes the dolls look resembles a favorite child or person. Having shared a common bond of creating these dolls, the women in my classes are often inspired to exchange stories from their own childhood. These doll "children," with eyes so innocent and full of hope, awaken feelings that surprise and comfort. The dolls touch in women both young and old, the mother within all of us. Doll making is a transforming experience. My doll classes are sessions that awaken the soul and the often untapped creative side in each of us. To empower and guide women to create one of these precious dolls brings happiness to me as the artist-instructor, and most importantly happiness to the students.
