The
dolls I make became both one-of-a-kind pieces of art and almost real "children"
that can reach our emotions in very special ways. In my doll classes,
I see women being touched first by the creative process and then when
the doll is made, by the "child" they have created. At the end of a workshop,
the student looks at her completed doll and starts dressing it like a
real little child. Students often try to make the doll resemble a favorite
child. With the common bond of creating these dolls, the women in my classes
are often inspired to exchange stories from their own childhood. These
doll "children" awaken feelings we have when we think of real children,
with their little eyes so innocent and full of hope. The dolls touch in
women, both young and old, the mother in all of us. Doll making is a transforming
experience. My doll classes are sessions of the awakening of the soul
and the creative side in each of us. To enable students to create a doll
brings happiness, both to me as the artist and to the students. |
